Emergency Treatment

If you notice that you have a loose/broken appliance, please call our office as soon as possible. We will schedule the next appointment available to repair what is loose and/or broken. A broken appliance will impact the length of your treatment time; please do not wait until your regularly scheduled adjustment appointment.

If it is during non-business hours and there is a true orthodontic emergency, and you are in pain, a member of Dr. Hedrick's team can be reached at 831-427-2822.

Pain/Discomfort related with orthodontic treatment

For 2-3 days after the placement of orthodontic appliances or braces, your teeth may be sore. This is common and you should not be concerned. We suggest taking the recommended dosage of ibuprofen or another pain reliever to improve any discomfort. Eating soft foods, such as mashed potatoes, applesauce, smoothies and ice cream are recommended.

Lost separators/spacers

If a separator or spacer is lost, please call our office during normal business hours to see if the separator needs to be replaced. It is very common and in many cases will not require additional treatment.

Loose Bands/Brackets

Please call immediately if you or your child notices a loose band/bracket. We would like to schedule a re-bond appointment to fix the band/bracket as soon as possible. If you have a wire that is bothering you and causing discomfort, please apply the wax, which was provided, directly onto the area.
